Stephen G. Agnew, Editor

“Having gathered these facts, Watson, I smoked several pipes over them, trying to separate those which were crucial from others which were merely incidental.” ~ Sherlock Holmes, ‘The Crooked Man’

Stephen is a servant of Christ who believes in the infallibility of Scripture, both Old Testament and New Testament—holding to the truth that man’s mind and his ways are far beneath the Lord’s mind and ways. In other words, God’s Word never changes but the mind of man—and science as a result—constantly changes. The only sure foundation that we have isn’t in science or the musings of man, but in the Word of God alone.

Holding a deep love for science and the search for what is true, Stephen’s interest in science was born from the influence of his father who is a physicist and a civil engineer who always taught him that science supports Scripture beautifully. That science is nothing more than the discovering of God’s fingerprints on His creation. As a self-ascribed “Detective of Creation”, Stephen considers it an act of intimate worship towards the Lord of the universe to learn the mysteries of His creative hand.

“In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves. Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too.” ~ Philippians 2:3-4

A trained classical artist since childhood—drawing, painting, and sculpture—Stephen earned his undergraduate degree in graphic design from UT Arlington, and then went on to earn his Master of Business Administration and his Master of Science in Human Resource Management from UT Arlington as well. He currently serves as a Publishing Specialist with a Christian ministry where he designs Bibles on the computer and sends them out to be printed and given to communities and villages in need across the world.

Never betraying his first love—art, Stephen is an avid photographer where he enjoys capturing the power of the Lord’s creation and its beauty. He’s not a big fan of staged photography, but rather enjoys shooting candid photos of people as they live out their lives every day. Melding his love for science and photography, you’ll find Stephen chasing storms—well, tornadoes really—throughout the year where he utilizes raw scientific data from the National Weather Service to forecast and chase storms in Texas and the surrounding states. As much as he loves the science of storm chasing, what Stephen loves even more is capturing photos of storm structure and tornadoes, as well as taking into his camera lens and his being all of the beauty that nature has to show.

Even with all of his interests and hobbies, which seem to multiply by the year, Stephen’s deepest passion is serving others, the spiritual gift that he believes that has been given to him. To help in need folks around him, whether it’s the homeless man who simply needs a meal and a kind word, or the friend who needs a listening ear. His love for people fills him to the brim, and he knows that this love for others isn’t from his own ability but is fueled by Christ’s love.

Over the years, knowing his own failings and struggles, Stephen’s favorite verse in Scripture has become this—a beautiful and humbling reminder for all of us on how to love and be kind to each other:

“In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves. Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too.” ~ Philippians 2:3-4
